The Become a Flooring Tech program is an initiative of the Australian Flooring Industry Alliance (AFIA), in conjunction with Holmesglen Institute of TAFE. The program was enabled by a Workplace Training Innovation Fund (WTIF) grant from the Victorian Department of Education and is supported by the Victorian Skills Commissioner.
Apprentices receive ongoing payment while studying their apprenticeship based on industry award rates.
The flooring industry has been an unexplored option for many individuals seeking a trade qualification. Flooring technicians are in high-demand and the volume of work available has the potential to offer a long and rewarding career for those with the right attitude and skillset.
Flooring Technicians benefit further as they operate indoors, and are not effected by weather conditions, as are many other trades. This means more consistent hours of operation and income for those entering this industry. Flooring is often the final trade to work onsite. This is highly-rewarding as you are able to see the incredible impact that flooring design and finish can give to a project.
